The National cycling team ‘Team Rwanda’ which arrived in the Moroccan capital of Rabat yesterday will battle 120 riders, most of whom are professionals in the 23rd edition of the Tour of Morocco which paces off tomorrow.

Team Rwanda is being represented by six riders namely Abraham Ruhumuriza, Nathan Byukusenge, Nicodem Habiyambere, Gasore Hategeka, Rafiki Uwimana and Obed Ruvogera.

The ten-day tour has ten stages, two of which are split stages which begin in Rabat and end in the country’s largest city – Casablanca on April 4th.

With the tour concentrated on flat terrains, Team Rwanda has a lot to prove as statistics show that local cyclists are well suited for hilly terrains.

Tomorrow, riders will ride over 180km from Rabat to Larache. Other stages include; Tanjer-Chaouen (150km), Chaouen-Alhoceima (190km), Alhoceima-Nadar (140km), Nador-Marghmia-Oujda (170km), Taza-Meknes (180km), Meknes-Khenifra (170km), Khenifra-Beni Mellal (130km), Beni Mellal-Marrakech (190km), Beni Guerir-Casablanca(180km).

Tour of Morocco is classified as 2:2 by the International Cycling Union (UCI).
