Writer/director, Omar Bisengimana must have watched a bunch of historical films, picked out the most common scenarios, and included them in his film, "Why Me”, a moving film based on a true story.

Actor Bisengimana, 31, said that ‘Why Me’ is based on his life experience as a refugee in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where he grew up.

"Like other Rwandans who lived in foreign countries as refugees, life was tough and many people lead a miserable lifestyle,” Bisengimana said.

He added: "It was because of these harsh conditions that forced me to act a movie, to show the world what Rwandans passed through, while in foreign countries, so that the international human rights bodies could fight against such maltreatments.”

Bisengimana said that when he was young, he watched numerous historical films from which he derived his acting skills.

He has released three movies, and his first movie, ‘Icyo Imana ishaka,’ is based on religion, while the two others, ‘Why Me’ (Part 1 and 2) are based on his personal experience.

‘Why Me’ Part 1 was released in October, 2009, and started broadcasting on the Rwanda National Television in January 2010.

"My wish is to release a part every two months, but it’s quite impossible because I lack financial capacity,” Bisengimana said.

The first part of the movie was acted in Rwanda and produced in Uganda, while Part 2 was acted in three different countries; Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya, but produced in Uganda.

Currently, ‘Why Me’ has become a popular blockbuster in countries like Burundi.
