Rwanda’s largest Internet Service Provider (ISP) by market share, Rwandatel, has introduced a new internet modem.
The modem, which is compatible with the operator’s 3G mobile broadband network, offers speed of up to 7.2 Mbps.
Company officials said no software disks are needed as the drivers are directly installed from the modem.
Cleophas Kabasiita, Rwandatel’s Corporate Communication Manager said that the new modem cost Rwf23, 500.
"For the Post-paid users, monthly payments are Rwf41,300 and customers can surf the internet and download the emails without usage limits. This is attractive to companies without access to LAN and fibre, as well as individuals who prefer paying one time as opposed to loading airtime,” she explained.
She added that prepaid users will pay a very competitive price of only Rwf0.03 per KB.
"Constomers can stay connected whenever they want because they only pay for the data they send or receive and they can work out of the office without problem,” Kabasita said.
She also explained that with the new modem there is no need to search for a telephone socket.
