KIGALI - Prime Minister Bernard Makuza, yesterday officially launched Rwanda Village, an illustration of the country’s past and present cultural heritage.

Rwanda Village which contains Rwandan manufactured products, Kigali city Master Plan, ICT, art and craft, cultural dances, as the backbone of the country’s tradition will be showcased in the World Cup hosting cities of Durban and Tswane. The Rwandan cultural troupe was selected to perform at the official opening ceremony of the World Cup in June.

The Prime Minister, called on Rwandans and Africa in general to ensure colourful celebrations for the World Cup that will be held on the African continent for the first time ever.

"This is our opportunity to show the world that Africa can even do better. It’s time to show our solidarity, dignity and pride,” Makuza said.

He also urged the youth, as future leaders, to get involved in developmental activities. His comments came shortly after a football match, dubbed ‘Mini World Cup’, between youth from Durban football academy and their counterparts from Amavubi academy, which ended in a one-all-draw
"This shows good partnership and Africa’s better future. Youth are not only future leaders but also today’s energy in sustainable developments” Makuza noted.

Makuza, who extended President Paul Kagame’s greetings to Kigali residents and the country in general, thanked South Africa for inviting Rwanda to showcase her cultural heritage, and thanked the Mayors of East African countries for their partnership with Rwanda to celebrate Rwanda’s achievements.

He called on Rwandans to focus on developmental activities to realise the country’s dream.

Makuza also handed over trophies to the winners of the Mayor’s Cup. Dufatanye football club and ECOS FC won the boys and girls categories respectively. Each of the team was also given Rwf 600, 000.

City mayor, Aisa Kirabo attributed Kigali’s achievements that include cleanliness, protecting the environment and booming business to the country’s leadership.
