GATSIBO - Police in Gatsibo district have arrested a man for attempting to bribe a police official.

Shem Rukundo, a resident of Mbogo cell, Kiziguro sector in Gatsibo district was apprended by the very officer he attempted to bribe, the Kiramuruzi Police Post commander, Chief Sergeant Edmund Habimana.

According to sources, the bribe was intended to induce Police to release Rukundo’s brother-in-law, who was arrested for selling illegal local brew commonly known as Kanyanga.

He called me several times seeking an audience. I later allowed him to talk to me during which he asked me to release Francios Xavier Murenzi, his brother in law,’ Sgt. Habimana confirmed in an interview. 

He insisted on offering me Rwf50, 000 in return and we arrested him.’

In a statement made at Police, Rukundo admitted to trying to bribe the Police official.
