RWANDA’S professional golfer Emmanuel Ruterana left for Nairobi yesterday ahead of the KCB Kenya Open Golf Championship which tees off this Thursday at Nairobi’s par-71 Muthaiga Golf Club. Speaking to Times Sport before his departure, Ruterana said, “I have only two days to acclimatize to the course.”

Speaking to Times Sport before his departure, Ruterana said, "I have only two days to acclimatize to the course.”
Ruterana, who was bankrolled by Ernst & Young, RwandAir and Tele 10, will have Jean Baptist Hakizimana as his caddie at the four-day event which boosts of Euros 190,000 (approx. Rwf 147.5m) in prize money.
Some of Kenya’s entries in the Open include; Ali Kimani, 2009 Rwanda Open winner Richard Ainley, Nicholas Rokoine, David Odhiambo, David Wakhu, Peter Njiru, Kopan Timbe, Simon Ngigi, James Lorum, Brian Njoroge, Hardeep Thethy, Charan Thethy, Anil Shah, Ajay Shah, Njuguna Ngugi, Masimo Vinaccia and John Kagiri.
Uganda has Deo Akope and George Olayo; Bryson Nyenza and Hassan Kadio are from Tanzania while Nigerians Edet Umoh and Christian Godfrey are the only West Africans in the show.
Seven South Africans and two Zambians complete Africa’s entries as the rest are from other parts of the world mainly Europe and South America.
Three past winners, Johan Axgren from Sweden (2006), Britons James S. Lee (2002) and Iain Pyman (2008), are also among the listed competitors.
The purse for the event is Euros 190,000 and 156 players will battle it out. England’s Gary Boyd won the previous year edition.
