A new Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) that will spearhead advocacy for Children has been launched.
The launch of the ‘ISHAMI Advocacy for Children’ took place Thursday at the Sports View Hotel in Remera Sector, Gasabo district.

In her remarks at the ceremony to launch it, the NGO’s founder and president, Nyanja Nzabamwita, said that the first task to be tackled would be organising centralized trainings of professionals already working in vulnerable and orphans’ fields.

"Ishami seeks to train social workers, lawyers and psychologists in Gasabo district on how to provide strong coordination support to orphans and vulnerable children in the district,” she said.

She added that this would help improve the trainee’s knowledge regarding dealing with orphans and vulnerable children.

Nzabamwita urged participants, especially local leaders in Gasabo District, to always collaborate with Ishami in resolving vulnerable children and orphans’ problems.

Underscoring the crucial role to be played, the ISHAMI President said that attention will be paid to enhance capacity building among social workers, lawyers and psychologists.

Nzabamwita added that Ishami would also create a database for the vulnerable children and orphans in the district in order to make a daily follow up on them.

Among other participants at the ceremony were officials from the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion, UNICEF, and leaders from Gasabo.
