Police has arrested seven suspects for violation of intellectual property and forged documents while seeking visas to Germany, The Sunday Times can report.

The suspects were arrested at the German Embassy after being found in possession of false/forged bank statements, driving permits and a letter inviting them to Germany signed by pastor Bernard Ian Hooksam.

"We are committed to fight all crimes including forgery. We cannot ascertain what they really wanted to do in Germany given all the forged documents, including the invitation letter,” Eric Kayiranga, the police spokesman said Friday at Muhima Police station where the suspects are being detained.

The suspects who included one movie producer and an actor, were arrested by police after a tip-off by one Peter Kigame who notified police that the seven had plagiarised his Film ‘Tears of Rwanda’ which they were planning to screen in Germany.

The German Embassy had also realised that all the documents were forged.

"The embassy had received information from several banks and discovered the scam, so we worked with the embassy to call them for their visas and when they all reported, we arrested them,” Kayiranga revealed.

Among those arrested were Jean Baptiste Sangano, the producer of the film which was shot in Muhanga District, and Christian Eddy Nkuyubwatsi, one of the actors.

The rest of the suspects were girls who denied having forged any papers and put the blame on their bosses.
Sangano acknowledged forging the documents.
