The Amavubi Stars prolific striker Olivier Karekezi has advised Tanzania national team players to go professional in European clubs.

Karekezi said this after he was shocked to find out that Tanzania has no professionals in European top leagues despite its richness in football talents.

Karekezi, who plays for Swedish Premier League side Helsingborgs, insisted that there are many efforts can be made to get Tanzanian players to Europe.

I know some few good players with whom I used to play against them with our national team and with my former club APR.I don’t know why you don’t have professionals” Karekezi asked during a press conference.

When asked how he managed to get to Sweden, Karekezi said he was spotted by a Swedish agent when playing against Ghana in the 2004 Nations Cup qualifiers.

Karekezi further added that in Sweden and other Scandinavian countries there are so many players from the region who are not far better than Tanzanians.

Karekezi said that the Tanzania local football body should establish contacts with agents in Europe to woo them into coming to scout their players in Tanzania.

Tanzania has no single player in a European Premier League. Renatus Njohole plays for Swiss second division side, Balmes FC, while the ageing Michael Chuma plays for a lowly club in Denmark. Nizar Khalfan and Danny Mrwanda plays in Kuwait.
