She is young. She is talented. The Sunday Times’ EMMA PRINCE hooked up with Princess Priscilla to let her fans know more about the up and coming star.

Umulatwa Priscilla aka Princess, is one teen who has already secured herself a place among the most renowned artists in the land, at the tender age of 17.
She is often mistaken for the African-American ‘Young Sunshine’ Rihanna by many people owing to vocal indifference of the two.

Princess Priscilla rose to fame in mid 2009 after releasing her wonder single ‘Mbabarira’, a real-life love song, presenting herself as the new model to the music industry dominated by male figures. It which also took the airwaves by storm as only a few DJs would sign out with out playing this song.

She featured the ‘Coga style’ king Rafiki in her second song ‘Tukabyine’ which also made it to most radio countdowns. Priscilla did not need multiple albums to be a star, only three singles were enough to place her with Rwanda’s ‘A’-listers like Shanel and Meddy- thanks to her supportive producer Pastor P.

The songstress did not start music in 2009 though, but rather at just three years after her birth. Priscilla went on with simple baby-singing in her nursery school and the Sunday School which like to most artists, did a lot in ushering her to the music race.

She picked her inspiration from American R’nB idol, Brandy. She also admires freedom-hustler Nelson Mandela though she admits never being updated in politics.

The Priscilla outside music is much simpler than what you expect to get from any other hot belle, especially a Rwandan. She never ceases sending hearty smiles to anyone in her sight and sparing sometime to share jokes with her fans- she loves fans.

She also says that she likes having good time with her loving family. She swims, plays basketball or goes shopping in her free time. She has never tasted any liquor or drug and does not like going to nightclubs. She prefers to keep silent when asked about relationship status.

Princess Priscilla also associates herself with Christian life, and mentions discipline several times when talking about her persona. She in fact attributes her fairway in music to prayer in addition to hard work and determination.

Asked what she had in store for her fans in the near future, she promised a lot. "I have a lot of love and music surprises for my dear fans,” says Priscilla, also a form five student at La Colombiere.

Pastor P says that he is almost done Priscilla’s upcoming album after signing her to the record label ‘Narrow Road’ in January 2010.

She has also made collabos with many locally famed artists like K8 Kavuyo and Jay Polly and is currently busy rehearsing for her first video shooting.

She is also working hard on perking up her stage work. This will be taking us to big-time entertaining performances whenever she mounts the podium. (Shhh! This was meant to be a secret between the writer and the artist in focus).
