RUBAVU – The National Electoral Commission (NEC) has urged students of the Kigali Independent University (ULK) Rubavu campus to shun politicians who incite violence.

Addressing students and local residents at the university’s auditorium on Wednesday, the NEC chairman, Prof. Chrysologue Karangwa said Rwandans should avoid ethnic differences and embrace unity.

"We believe in the principles of democracy and good governance based on patriotism. Power belongs to the people and this principle must be respected,” Karangwa said.

"We encourage all eligible voters to use their rights to choose the right presidential candidate without basing on emotions or ethnic differences.”  

Karangwa asked local authorities to issue all residents with national identity cards to facilitate the updating of the voters’ register.
