HAS A LOT ON HIS PLATE: Sellas Tetteh

AMAVUBI STARS’ Coach Sellas Tetteh is expected to get down to serious business as soon as he jets in today.

With the Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) and Africa Nations Cup (CAN) qualifiers round the corner, the Ghanaian World Cup winning coach has a lot on his plate.

Tetteh, who had traveled to Ghana for the Glo-CAF Africa football awards, where he was eventually crowned 2009 African coach of the year, delayed his return due to personal engagements.

But the Ghanaian, who jets in this afternoon aboard Ethiopian Airways, recently said that his next task is to mould Rwanda’s national team ‘Amavubi Stars’ into a more competitive side.

Rwanda reached the next round of the CHAN qualifiers without kicking a ball following Eritrea’s withdrawal. Rwanda will now face the winner between Somalia and Tanzania on May 4 (first leg) with the return leg scheduled for June 1.

After CHAN qualifiers, Rwanda will quickly shift her focus to the Nations’ Cup qualifiers which kick-off in September.
Rwanda starts her campaign with a tricky away tie against African giants Ivory Coast on the weekend of September 3-5 before hosting Benin and Burundi.

The fourth tie will see Amavubi traveling to Bujumbura before entertaining the Elephants in Kigali. Rwanda will then travel to West Africa (Benin) for their final qualifier.

Rwanda’s only CAN appearance dates back in 2004 when the tournament was held in Tunisia.
