Rwanda Bureau of Standards (RBS) has granted Inyange industries a product quality mark for its mineral water that will boost its exports, according to the industry official.

Victor Kinuma, Inyange’s Marketing Manager said that the mark was granted last month following their application to RBS, a body that monitors products’ standards in the country.

"We have acquired the mark for mineral water for starters but the process is on to get the mark for all our products,” said Kinuma.

Inyange, which is Rwanda’s leading beverage industry by investment capital, product portfolio and market share, recently launched its new $35m factory and is looking at exploring regional markets.

Inyange’s major products include milk, mineral water and juice. Management says that with the new plant,  the company seeks to increase production capacity of water, from 1800 liters per hour to 6500 liters, and of juice 750 liters to 5000 per hour .

"The product quality mark will help us to enter the East African market, especially Uganda and Kenya since they had demanded the mark before allowing exportation of our products there,” Kinuma added.

Currently, inyange exports its products to Burundi and the DRC and it seeks to be represented in all the EAC countries by the first quarter of this year.

The company is also diversifying its products and will soon start manufacturing bottled pineapple juice, ice cream as well as butter among other products.
