THE growing popularity of rugby in Rwanda has been further boosted by the inclusion of the sport in this year’s post primaries competition that kicked off last weekend in Rwamagana.

Rugby has been on rise in the last few years; with the national team-Silverbacks taking part in regional competitions like the Hima-Makerere 10s, Nakuru Sevens and the Bujumbura Sevens and the looming Hong Kong 10s-a curtain raiser to the prestigious IRB World Seven Series.

According to Janvier Ugeziwe, the rugby federation Secretary General, 28 schools are competing this year.
"For starters, we shall have 28 schools because they are the ones with good pitches and good knowledge of the game.”

Some of these schools include Riviera High school, Green Hills, St.Andre, Sunrise, Remera Rukoma, Apred Ndera, Shyongwe, Kizberi, Ruhango High School, Nyanza, ETO Gitarama, Maranatha College, Bethel College, Ruhango and Mukingi among others.
