RWAMAGANA – A teacher at Bicumbi Teachers Training College, Jean Baptiste Muco, has been detained at Nzinge Police Station in Rwamagana district, for allegedly insulting his wife.
Muco, a Burundian national, is said to have verbally insulted Charlotte Nyirarukundo, with whom they have been cohabiting for years, leading her to be traumatised. The woman is a genocide survivor.
The Executive Secretary of the Nzige sector, Pierre Claver Mugabushaka, said the woman collapsed after being insulted.
He described the pair’s relationship as ‘ugly and chaotic.’
"The couple has been living a miserable life. The man is a renowned drunkard,” he said.
"On that day, he (teacher) warned her that he could beat her to death and send her where her dead parents are,” Mugabushaka narrated.
Célestin Barinda, the college’s director, said the board was yet to decide on the fate of the concerned teacher.
"I don’t know what will follow if he is released. I have had enough of him. We call for a meeting as administrators to decide his fate,” he said.
The couple has four children.
