THE local athletics federation (RAF) reckons that a sixth spot finish in the upcoming World Cross Country Championship would be a huge success. The championship scheduled for March 28 in Bydgoszcz, Poland, will attract the world’s top athletes but RAF’s technical advisor Emmanuel Murenzi maintains that Rwanda’s eight-man team can succeed.
THE local athletics federation (RAF) reckons that a sixth spot finish in the upcoming World Cross Country Championship would be a huge success.
The championship scheduled for March 28 in Bydgoszcz, Poland, will attract the world’s top athletes but RAF’s technical advisor Emmanuel Murenzi maintains that Rwanda’s eight-man team can succeed.
Although the team finished a distant tenth last year, Murenzi feels they can repeat their 2004 heroics when they finished sixth.
"We hope they can improve on last year’s performance and possibly finish 5th or 6th.”
With the exception of Sylvain Rukundo and Jean Baptist Simuceka who are training in Italy, the rest of the team has camped at Hilltop hotel under the tutelage of Eric Karasira.
The team, which has been funded by the ministry of Sports and Culture (Minispoc), jets out next Thursday.
Poland team; Claudette Mukasakindi, Pelagie Musengimana, Francine Ingabire, Felix Ntirenganya, Evariste Nzabonimpa, Eric Sebahire, Sylvain Rukundo and Jean Baptist Simuceka.
