SILVERBACKS’ new skipper Didier Kamanzi is ready to take up the mantle at the upcoming Hong Kong 10s tournament; Rwanda’s first high profile international tournament.
Kamanzi who plays as a prop recently took over the captaincy from Benjamin Makombe. It has been confirmed that Silverbacks’ caretaker coach Gerard Nsenga stripped Makombe of the captaincy because of a busy work schedule which couldn’t guarantee his availability in the side.
Kamanzi, 25 has now said that the team is determined to put in a spirited fight in Hong Kong. "This tour is not about us making numbers because we have been training hard to try and put on a good show in Asia,”
The two-day Hong Kong 10s is a curtain-raiser for the famous IRB Sevens World Series-one of the most evenly contested events on the International Rugby Board (IRB) calendar. Nsenga however maintains that Makombe is still an integral part of the team.
This year, the World Series will attract New Zealand, Samoa, Fiji, England, Argentina, Australia and Kenya.
