Rayons Sports’ title hopes were dealt a big blow as they suffered a 3-2 defeat to Etincelles during Sunday’s tense encounter held at Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu.

The hosts came from behind to beat Haringingo’s side 3-2 in a surprise victory that left the table leaders looking on their shoulders from AS Kigali who thrashed Espoir 4-0 at Kigali Stadium to close the gap at the top of the table by one point.

Ibrahim Niyonsenga early in the second minute of the game to give Etincelles the lead ahead a Rayon side that was yet to get into the game.

Ghanaian striker Sumaila Moro then netted a brace for the host in the 26th and 38th minutes respectively to put more misery on the visitors and take home maximum points maintain their fine form as they bid to finish in the top six.

Prince Rudasingwa and Hadji Iraguha scored for Rayon in the 70th and 90th minutes respectively as they pushed for at a least a draw but Etincelles’ defense resisted to take home all three points.

The defeat put Rayon under immense pressure from AS Kigali who thrashed Espoir 4-0 through goals from Hussein Tshabalala Shabban’s brace, Moise Nyarugabo and Gilbert.

Elsewhere, Sunrise beat Rwamagana 5-2 in the Eastern Province derby while Djarudi Iradukunda scored a last-minute goal for Bugesera to take surprise victory over Mukura in Huye.

Despite the defeat, Rayon still lead the league with 28 points, a point ahead of AS Kigali while Kiyovu sit third with 24 points. The green baggies were back to winning ways on Saturday as they defeated Police 1-0 at Kigali Stadium.
