KARONGI – The head teacher of Ecole Secondary (ESI) Bwishyura in Karongi district has been arrested along with his accountant for failure to account for over Rwf3milion.

Ephraim Minani, who is also the Bwishyura Sector Advisory Council president, and Anastase Kanakuze, were rounded up last week and charged at Bwishyura Primary Court.

A Police source told The New Times that part of the missing money was given to the school by the Genocide Survivors’ Fund (FARG) and the rest was a contribution from parents and students.

"An audit by the Ministry of Finance that was carried out early this year exposed the financial scam in the school,” police said.

According to the prosecution, Minani and his co-accused face between 5-10 years if found guilty.
