HUYE – The Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), Dr Shija F. William, on Saturday visited the National University of Rwanda and toured the ongoing expo at the university.

The exposition is an annual education event organised by the University Students Union (NURSU).

He toured different stands, especially those where students’ achievements were on display and congratulated the students for their determination to contribute to the country.

The official urged students to be committed on their work in order to contribute in building a better Rwanda and a better Africa.

"Nothing should stop you in your work. You should be faithful to the state and be committed so that our continent continues to shine,” he said.

He noted that during his visit in the country he has learnt a lot, including various reconciliation initiatives.

"I will leave Rwanda with a lot of memories particularly what you are doing within the area of reconciliation,” he told the students.

The Guild president for the National University of Rwanda Students Union (NURSU), Aimée Mwizerwa, in a separate  interview said that the visit of the CPA Secretary-General to the university was a sign of support from the Commonwealth community.

"Visiting the exhibition activities here is a sign that he recognises students’ efforts and initiatives especially in poor countries,” she said.

She appealed for collaboration between the university and the Commonwealth organisation noting that this would be helpful to students.

"We expect more collaboration and cooperation with the organisation in the future, for instance we hope to see them help us organise the future events of the students’ exposition,” Mwizerwa said.

The National university of Rwanda exposition brings together students associations, including its different faculties.
