Last Friday evening, music fans flocked Goethe-Institut, a German Cultural Centre located in Kacyiru, Kigali for a live jazz and blues concert by Mutsar.

Karin Kathofer, the Director of Goethe-Institut said that every month Goethe-Institut organises special entertainment events with different themes to create space for more experimental music in Rwanda.

However, Kathofer noted that in Rwanda, most artists are commercial and perform in various venues, especially hotels and restaurants for money.

"One of the main reasons for these themes is to give platform to local artists to showcase their talents, as well as give music lovers chance to attend live performances,” Kathofer said.

She added that: "We also sponsor local upcoming hip hop artists to launch their CD alums.”

Carina Erdnann, a German youth working at Maison des Jeunes in Kimisagara was delighted to attend the concert.

"We normally organise cultural events at Maison des Jeunes, and I think Rwandans are talented. I love live performances, and that’s the reason I’m attending this particular one,” Erdnann said.

The concert started at 8:30 p.m with an entrance fee of Rfw1,000 for non-students and Rfw500 for students.
