It warmed my heart to read in yesterdays publication that police had since last month arrested six people accused of having tried to bribe traffic officers after they were found violating several road safety rules.

These people, are reckless drivers who endanger themselves and other and then try to bribe their way out of a police ticket. They should face the full force of the law. I’m not saying that each and every one of them is guilty because, as we know, "one is innocent until proven guilty”.

But those who are found guilty should be punished in a manner that sends a message to those who would try to bribe police officers.

The mere fact that these people tried to bribe the officers, shows that there might be a problem in the campaign against corruption. If they knew that they would be arrested, they wouldn’t have tried to bribe the traffic policemen.

That is why I urge the Police department to have more anti-corruption campaigns aimed at drivers.

And when they do so, they must clean out the force of any policemen and women who would accept a bribe. That way, we won’t have a problem of attempted police bribery.
