RWAMAGANA – Eight people suspected to have been behind a series of robberies in Kayenzi village in Rwamagana district were on Tuesday arrested in an operation mounted by residents and local leaders. They were handed over to security organs.

According to Déo Semana, one of the local leaders, the suspects waylaid pedestrians in hidden spots, and took away whatever valuables they carried.

He identified some of the suspects as Erick Ndayishimiye and Jean Bosco Bitwayiki, who he said are notorious thugs in the area.

They are now detained at Rwamagana Police Station.
The local authorities have been following the suspects closely and managed to get hold on them after long time, according to Semana.

"These are terrible idle youth, who smoke marijuana and drink illicit alcohol locally referred to as Kanyanga. They waylay people and take their property after beating them up. We shall not relent in tracking them down,” he said.

Josephine Kayitesi, a resident, said the suspects have especially been targeting women whom they robbed of phones and money.
