GHANAIAN football authorities have confirmed that a player has died after collapsing on the pitch during a game.

Bartholomew Opoku, 19, was playing for top-flight side Kessben in their clash league with Liberty on Sunday when he fell to the ground

He was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment but died on Monday.

"It’s a massive tragedy and the whole club is in shock. There was no hint he was unwell,” Kessben spokesman Fred Acheampong said.

The cause of death is unknown.
The news comes just four days after former Nigeria Under-23 international Endurance Idahor passed away during a match in Sudan.

The Al Merreikh striker collapsed and died during a league game with Al Amal. It was later announced that he had suffered a heart attack.

The former U-23 international started his top flight career with Nigerian side Julius Berger before joining rivals Dolphins in 2004.

He clinched the move to Merreikh in 2006 and was sent on loan to Saudi side in 2008 before returning to the Sudanese side. Idahor finished as top scorer during his first season in Sudan.

He scored 118 goals in 176 appearances for the Omdurman side.
