KIGALI Volleyball Club (KVC) returned empty-handed from Burundi’s Amicale International volleyball championships held over the weekend.

The two-day event, which also attracted Ugandan giants Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC) saw home side Muzinga lift the title after dislodging KVC in straight sets (3-0) in Sunday’s final.

Fatigue is believed to have caught up with Jean Marie Nsengiyumva’s side who had to battle hard before seeing off KAVC at the semi-final stage (3-2). It was sweet revenge for KVC who lost to the Ugandans during last year’s KAVC Memorial tournament at Lugogo.

KVC won the first set but lost the next two sets to give KAVC the upper hand. However, two outstanding performances in the fourth and decisive sets earned KVC a ticket to the final.

In the other semi-final, Burundi’s army side Muzinga made light work of their police counterparts (Rukinzo) after a straight sets victory.
