APR opened up a two-point lead at the top of the national football league table after yesterday’s 2-0 win over Electrogaz at Nyamirambo’s regional stadium.

Winger Didier Kapet opened the scoring on the 30th minute when the Electrogaz defence failed to clear their lines, allowing the midfielder to slot home from close range.

In the second half, APR started off from where they had left off, dominating possession and the flow of the game. It was not long before the reigning champions doubled their lead when Striker Emmanuel Sebanani headed in Haruna Niyonzima’s cross into the top left corner.

Despite a late surge from Electrogaz, Erik Paske’s side held on to register their tenth league win of the season.

While defeat kept Electrogaz in seventh place with 14 points, APR, who still have a game in hand, moved to the summit of the table with 33 points, two clear of second placed Rayon Sport, who are in for a tough test this afternoon against Etincelles at Umuganda stadium.

Etincelles, who finished the first round campaign atop the table, can close in on APR with a win over the Blues. The Western Province side is four points off the pace.

Else where, AS Kigali host Amagaju at Mumena while 2008 league champions Atraco are eager to shake off their Orange Confederation Cup exit with a good display against struggling Musanze later today.

Sam Timbe’s side is in fourth place with 27 points.
