Rwanda’s flag was proudly hoisted at Marlborough House, the Commonwealth Headquarters in London, to signify its entrance as the 54th member of the Commonwealth group of nations.

Raising the flag in the chilly London weather opens the door to warmer and profitable relations for the country.

Joining the Commonwealth, not only brings broader opportunities; be it economic, cultural or educational, but also, as president Kagame said at the flag-raising ceremony, Rwanda stands to gain much from the 53 other member nations, as much as they will learn from some of Rwanda’s home-grown solutions.

Opportunities in the Commonwealth are immense and this calls for creative approaches by both the public and private sectors to gain the most out of it.

As Rwandans settle in the global village, they should keep their eyes wide open to benefit from the opportunities that would spur their country to greater heights.

They should also grab every opportunity to sell positive aspects of the country.

This country has come a long way and is living proof that with resilience, sound policies and good leadership, no mountain is too high to conquer. The Commonwealth horizon is beckoning, let us heed the call.
