HUYE - Human Help Network Rwanda (HHN), a Non Governmental Organisation that promotes sustainable human, social and economic development, last week handed over a six-classroom block it built in Karama Sector, Huye district.

With technical expertise from the partnership between Rhineland-Palatinate and Rwanda, HHN also constructed latrines and provided clean water to the over 1,400 pupils of the school.

Esther Kronsbein, the coordinator of HHN in Rwanda, said that the organisation was pleased to contribute to the education sector in Rwanda albeit in a small way.

"Education is key to doors that have to be opened to ensure a prosperous country, we believe that we made a good choice to support this sector,” Kronsbein said.

Bernadette Mukantabuye, the deputy headmistress of the school, appreciated the good working partnership with HHN and said that the donation will make a big difference.

"This new classroom block will provide an enabling learning environment for our children, by having a good learning environment, the pupils grades will undoubtedly improve,” she said.

Jean Baptiste Irahoza, a district official in charge of education sports and culture, called upon children and school authorities to take good care of the building.

"This is one of the best classroom blocks you can find around here, use it well to achieve the objectives for which it was constructed,” he said.

He reminded parents in the sector to continue the efforts to construct classrooms to support the 9- Year Basic Education programme- an initiative that has largely lagged behind in the district.

The district requires 111 classrooms but only 44 are in place and are being used by students.
