The local cricket governing body, RCA has hailed Rwanda’s U-15 cricket team for putting up a spirited fight in their debut appearance of the revamped ACA U-15 East African tournament that was staged in Nairobi.

Rwanda finished third at the four-nation tournament that was claimed by Uganda.

Although the youngsters succumbed to a six-wicket defeat against Uganda, the RCA president Charles Haba stressed that the experienced Ugandan side was forced to dig deep.

"Uganda who were joint favorites for the title with Kenya expected an easy win but were stunned when their top order batsmen found the going tougher than they had anticipated,” he noted.

And against Tanzania, the youngsters restored the country’s pride when they stunned the former with a two-wicket victory.

Having set 113 runs for the loss of nine wickets, Rwanda chased down the score in 31 overs for the loss of eight wickets there by registering a well -deserved two-wicket victory.

After tuesday’s win over Tanzania, Haba said that the boys deserved a lot of credit not only in that game but also for their spirited performance against Uganda.

Meanwhile, Uganda were tuesday crowned champions after dislodging former champions Kenya.

Uganda put up a brave performance to beat Kenya by 12 runs. At the closing ceremony, Rwanda’s Bob Bashil scooped the tournament’s best fielder’s accolade after taking four catches.
