KICUKIRO - Kicukiro District, in partnership with the area police, yesterday donated items worth Rwf4 million to various vulnerable groups in Masaka and other areas.

The items given out were some of the products confiscated by police from various business people who had been unlawfully conducting business.

"Police had accumulated a lot of items that had been confiscated from fraudulent business operators. We saw it prudent to give them to some of the vulnerable groups in our midst,” said Jules Ndamage, the Mayor of Kicukiro.

Among those who received the donations include people whose property was recently destroyed by the rains, genocide survivors and the disabled ex-combatants.

"We have people whose property was destroyed by the recent rains. These items can help to forge a way forward as other means of support come,” he added.

The donation included a wide range of domestic materials like cooking utensils, clothes, soap, sugar and other items.

The Mayor added that there has been a tendency of unlawful and fraudulent business operations, but police has always been on top of this issue and has confiscated the commodities of those involved.

The items were confiscated from surrounding places such as Gikondo, Kabeza and others within the confines of Kicukiro District.

In a related development, Kicukiro police destroyed over 65 litres of Kanyanga (local potent brew) and many other illegal gins smuggled from Uganda, including 694 packs of Suzie Waragi, 513 packs of Vuduka and 3 kgs of marijuana, which were set ablaze alongside polythene bags they collected in an operation to make the city clean and secure.
