Editor,

The population in the city has more than tripled, surpassing previous projections. Necessary amenities in the city must be put in place. KCC had estimated that by 2015 the population would be 450, 000 but now it’s more than a million. The increase in numbers brings with it other challenges like housing, sanitation constraints and other issues.

The rapid development in the city over the years has attracted mass rural-urban migration with many Rwandans coming to Kigali in search of employment and better standards of living.

KCC needs to plan ahead of this influx.    Currently, the suburbs are jammed with migrants in search for better livelihoods.

This has heightened some insecurity in the city and increased demand for accommodation. These people going in and out need to be controlled. The infrastructure is not increasing.

There isn’t enough housing, water pipes and health facilities. KCC needs to increase the city infrastructure to meet the rapidly growing population.
