MUSANZE - A recent tour of the Northern Province by Prime Minister Bernard Makuza, revealed that hundreds of millions of francs meant for the Vision 2020-Umurenge (VUP) program in the province are not being used.
During the tour, Makuza, quizzed Mayors and the Sector Executive Secretaries from the VUP sectors to explain why money had not been requisitioned and used for its intended purposes.

However, the officials failed to provide convincing reasons, prompting the Governor of the province, Aime Bosenibamwe, to intervene.

"The province will immediately act, because the districts failed to take the right actions, this affects the welfare of the residents,” Bosenibamwe said. "Those who will fail to comply, action will be taken’’.

Makuza criticized the slow progress in alleviating high levels of poverty saying that a large amount of money meant for such sectors has not been properly used.

The target sectors were allocated over Rwf300m to invest in public works, financial projects, and direct support. However, more than three quarters of the money has not been requisitioned and is still in the coffers of the Community Development Fund (CDF).
