Over Frw 2 billion francs was last weekend raised in pledges towards the set up of Southern Province Investment Corporation.
Business persons from the area endorsed a plan to set up
Frw 6billion Southern Province Investment Corporation (SPIC) in order to foster development in the south.
Sources say that the corporation would spearhead investments in Cassava growing, tea processing and manufacture of essential drugs.
Minister of Commerce and trade Protais Mitali, Agriculture Minister Anastase Murekezi, Governor Fidele Ndayisaba, National Bank f Rwanda Governor Francois Kanimba and business tycoon Tribert Rujugiro were among the guests that pledged support towards the business deal.
A share in the corporation cost Frw1million but it takes a minimum
of Frw3million to acquire shares in the corporation.
Districts in the Province are expected to rise between Frw100 to
Frw150million as part of their contributions to the corporation.
Similar investment corporations have been set up across the country geared towards encouraging local investments.
