Final score

Tanzania 113/9

Rwanda 114/8

Rwanda won by two wickets

Rwanda defied their affiliate’s status yesterday when they stunned Tanzania (Associates) with a two-wicket victory in the final game of the ACA U-15 boys’ East Africa tournament in Nairobi.

After dismal performances against Kenya and Uganda, the youngsters put up a spirited fight against their Tanzanian neighbors.

Joseph Tuyishimire masterminded Rwanda’s run to glory with a spectacular performance.

The 14-year-old picked three wickets and posted 20 runs to jointly help his side to its first victory and a third spot finish in the three-day competition that wrapped up yesterday.

Batting first, Tanzania posted 113runs for the loss of nine wickets. In reply, Rwanda chased down the score in 31 overs; with nine overs to spare.

Fiston Nsengiyumva who top scored against Uganda with 19runs once again stood as Rwanda’s top batsman yesterday with a patient 28runs.

After the win, Emma Byiringiro (coach) was so excited.
He said "The boys played well and deserved to win. After playing Uganda yesterday (Monday), we knew that we had a good chance of winning today”.

Although hosts and defending champions Kenya and Uganda were still battling for top honours by press time, it was clear that Rwanda had scooped third spot while Tanzania who failed to win a game at the competition had settled in the last spot.

The team returns tomorrow.
