The Minister of Sports and Culture Joseph Habineza on Sunday praised the National Cycling team for their heroics in the Cameroon tour at a party organized to celebrate the team’s good show at the event that is classified 2:2 by the UCI(International Cycling Union).

Team Rwanda finished third behind Cameroon and Slovakia, but Rwanda showed that they are the best in mountain biking after Abraham Ruhumuriza and Nathan Byukusenge grabbed the first two positions respectively.

The team’s performance was epitomized by Gasore Hategeka, a nineteen year old who won the third stage and finished 3rd twice on his international debut.

In his speech, Habineza urged the team to now aim for the first position in the next competition-Tour of Morocco.  "There is now general consensus that Rwanda has abundant talent in this sport (cycling).

The last few years have seen the national cycling team improve in every competition. It should now be your aim to finish in the first position,” Habineza said.
