ATRACO were subjected to a hasty exit from the Orange Confederation Cup after losing out to Sudan’s El-Amal on penalties last night.

The taxi-men side, who marched into the tie on the back of a healthy 2-0 first leg lead, saw their lead cut-out by two first-half goals from the rampant Sudanese’ side who had enormous support from the home crowd.

With the game poised at 2-all on aggregate, it had to go down on penalty shoot-outs were El-Amal came out on top 11-10 to knock Sam Timbe’s side out of the competition at the first hurdle.

With a healthy first leg lead, a draw of any kind would have seen Atraco proceed to the next round but El-Amal got two quick goals on the 25 and 30 minutes while Hamis Kitagenda and Mike Sebalinga missed easy chances in the second half to compound Atraco’s woes.

Both teams scored eight penalties on the trot before Atraco’s defender Arafat Serugendo missed the decisive penalty to hand El-Amal the ticket to the next round. 

Atraco coach Sam Timbe blamed the defeat on the sloppiness of his players.  "We struggled defensively and also gave away the ball cheaply,” he disappointedly told Times Sport on phone.
