Charles Haba will stay at the helm of the Rwanda Cricket Association after landing a new two-year term during Sunday’s Annual General Meeting that was held at Nyarutarama tennis club, he has occupying that office since 2000. 

"I want to thank everyone for putting their trust in me. Like I have done for the last seven years, I will work closely with my executive to take the sport to a whole new level,” he said.

Haba will be deputized by Rakesh Kumar who takes over from Mukri Mohammad as RCA’s vice president.

Mohammad Jasat takes over from Paul Bakuru as RCA’s General Secretary while acting Treasurer Romesh Thakkar assumed full duties after landing 30 votes out of 37. 

Like last year, RCA has dedicated this year to schools development arguing that the future of Rwandan cricket greatly lies in today’s youngsters.

Despite relinquishing his RCA duties, Mukri has promised to remain a strong follower of Rwandan cricket.

"I want to thank the entire cricket fraternity for making our (former RCA executive) work easy.

I will continue working with RCA in any way that I can and encourage the new execute to reach me whenever they want,” he said. 

Meanwhile, Rwanda’s U-15 boys’ national team got a crude welcome to the revamped ACA U-15 East Africa cricket tournament after suffering a 266 runs defeat against hosts and defending champions Kenya.

After winning the toss, Kenya posted an imposing total of 315 runs in 38.2 overs.

Emmanuel Bundi was the peak of Kenya’s batting with a roaring century (102) that included 14 fours. He was later dismissed by Ramba Dusabemungu.

In reply, Rwanda was dismissed for a paltry 49 runs after the entire team failing to get to double figures. Bundi was still the hosts’ hero as he picked four wickets for a paltry16 runs.

Rwanda’s coach Emma Byiringiro partly blamed the poor display to the players’ fatigue.

He said, "The players’ were not in good physical shape. They were fatigued because we spent over 40 hours on the road due to some mechanical problems with our transport (Regional bus).

"They only had five hours of sleep before the game so one couldn’t expect much from them; the coach noted before adding "But I expect a better show from them in the remaining two games”.

Rwanda where in action against Uganda in their second game but by press time the game was not over yet and the Rwandan team winds up its preliminary phase against Tanzania this morning.
