If you are a fan of badminton, then you have a chance to play or enjoy the sport when the first ever competition unfolds at Novotel Hotel courts on December 22.

The tournament, first of its kind in the country, will attract four active clubs from around Kigali City.

The club that have already confirmed their participation include; Nyarutarama, Novotel, Ecole Belge and Utexerwa.

According to Nyarutarama badminton club president and the initiator of the game in the country, Andrew Ndayambaje, this year’s tournament is aimed at publicizing and sensitizing the youths to embrace the sport.

 "We want to form more teams and to achieve that, we must have to first display the good things about the game and this will happen on December 22,” said Ndayambaje also a player.

The tournament is sponsored by Novotel Hotel which habours the only badminton court that meets the minimum standards.

Ndayambaje said that a committee has already been formed to foster plans of starting up a badminton federation in the country.

He revealed, "We have elected the treasurers, the Secretary, the head coach and plans are underway to fill the statutes and legalize the clubs and the federation altogether.”

Ndayambaje said that all the stack holders have appreciated the idea of forming a federation and formalizing badminton in the country.

He, however, noted that equipments is still lacking and that clubs should help their players in this aspect.
