Dear Editor,

Rwanda football federation, Ferwafa should use Barcelona president Joan Laporta’s visit to the country to build a strong relationship with the Barcelona Club.

Laporta will next week visit refugee camps in Rwanda which the club’s foundation and the UNHCR/ACNUR have been financing for the past two years.

According to the club website, www.fcbarcelona.cat, Laporta will visit camps at Gihembe, Kiziba and Nyabiheke, which are home to a combined population of over 35,000 created as a result of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

It is an opportunity to engage Laporta in talks which could yield strong football relationships with his club.
Such ties could even open doors for scouts to start hunting for talented Rwandan players as well as give football kits to local football clubs.

Just like he has constructed sports facilities in Gihemba camp, a Barcelona football academy can be constructed in Kigali in his name such that Africa could be a recruiting camp for European clubs.
