Dear editor,
I read with dismay what befell residents of Kigugu village in Kacyiru sector during the heavy rains that rocked Kigali City on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning leaving hundreds homeless.
The only reason people lost their property to the downpour was because of inhabiting in wetlands which should not be the case.
The rains not only washed away their property, but also left them in danger of being exposed to waterborne diseases like Cholera.
What relevant authorities should do is seek an alternative place where the affected people, and others who might not have been affected this time but are still in wetlands, can be immediately relocated to avoid a second disaster.
Residents should also comply when called upon to relocate because at the end of the day they are the ones who incur these losses.
