The National Cycling team ‘Team Rwanda’ has etched into local history books after finishing third in the tour of Cameroon which climaxed yesterday in Yaoundé-Cameroon.
Rwanda dominated the 3rd, 4th and 7th stages, while lack of experience deterred youthful Gasore Hategeka from winning the 9th stage.
Team Rwanda’s prowess in mountain climbing was evident after Abraham Ruhumuriza won the category, with fellow compatriot Nathan Byukusenge finishing second.
It is the first time Rwanda has posted such an impressive performance in a foreign competition, and the Sports Ministry is set to hold a welcome party for the team when they jet in tomorrow afternoon.
