Kigali City Council has embarked on an exercise to evaluate the progress achieved in realising development targets by the three districts that make up Kigali city.

During his visit to Kicukiro District, the city’s Vice Mayor in charge of Economic Affairs, Alphose Nizeyimana, said that it is necessary to establish how the districts are fairing.

"Various district leaders signed agreements with the President, and in these, it was agreed that certain targets are supposed to be achieved in a certain period of time. So these visits and assessments are meant to see where they stand,” he said

He also noted that these visits are also intended to know how far development activities undertaken in the first phase faired in terms of impacting people’s lives

"We have also undertaken these evaluations to cross-check and see how the activities are positively impacting the intended beneficiaries,” he noted

He congratulated Kicukiro district for their impressive progressive.

"It is practically visible that Kicukiro is doing well, considering what has been achieved in six months, I am positive that they will achieve their targets,” he added

The Mayor of Kicukiro, Jules Ndamage, called on residents of the district to respond positively and work towards owning the developments for  sustainable impact.

"Development only becomes meaningful if it’s owned by the people, and that’s how it can impact lives,” he said.

Nizeyimana also said that part of the mission is to identify factors leading to underperformance so that solutions can be found.
