KARONGI - A thief who had attempted to steal an assortment of household items narrowly survived mob justice by angry residents in Karongi district yesterday.

The unidentified man further angered the residents who caught him by refusing to identify himself.

"This man is fond of stealing people’s clothes and other items. Today he has run out of luck because I caught him before taking off from my neighbour’s home,” an eye witness said.

A team of police personnel who turned up to rescue the man from the angry mob urged the population to work hand in hand with security organs in order to prevent crime.

"It is important for the local residents to work with security organs in order to prevent domestic crimes which still remain a major challenge in our region,” police said.
