KAYONZA - Kayonza modern secondary school that was recently named the best performing school in the Eastern Province, and the third in nationally , is in dire need of student’s dormitories.

The headmaster of the school, Stephen Rwamurangwa, told The New Times that lack of basic amenities such as dormitories has not hampered their pursuit for excellence.
He however, expressed optimism that the school will build new dormitories in the near future.

"There is indeed a problem of accommodation for our students. However, we have been promised by those who support us that funds will be allotted for constructing new buildings,” he said.

Simon Rutegera the school academic registrar said that the students’ number has drastically increased due to its good performance.

"Our school is the first choice for most students in this province and beyond, which is why we are overwhelmed. We shall ask our partners to give us a hand, so as to overcome the new challenges,” he said.

Jean Marie Vianne an official in charge of development in the province said that he was impressed by the neatness of the school, despite the increment in student population.

Kayonza Modern School was started after the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi , with a small number of students and teachers.

Today, caters for over 843 students and has more than 20 teachers. The school’s language of instruction is exclusively English.
