KAYONZA - Over 40 newly constructed houses are ready to accommodate vulnerable people of Nyagasambu village in Nyamurama sector, Kayonza district. The new move is set to phase out the use of grass thatched houses in the area, local officials say. “It is our obligation to help each family to live in a decent house. We are helping some vulnerable people who were affected by the history of the country,” Andrew Rwamugabo, the area Executive Secretary said while officially handing over the houses to the beneficiaries yesterday.

The new move is set to phase out the use of grass thatched houses in the area, local officials say.

Anastase Barinda the district Vice Mayor in charge of Economic Affairs said that they have been sensitizing people, to stop building grass thatched houses.
Juliete Namabyariro one of the beneficiaries said that they are extremely happy to be assisted by government. She said that she will look after the house well, and protect its environs.
"I will plant fruit trees near the house and maintain it well, since it is a golden opportunity to own a house in my lifetime. I am generally grateful for the government’s decision,” she said.
The 40 houses valued at Rwf 120 million were built by the government with support from the European Union.
Local leaders in the country were given up to the end of June this year, by the Ministry of Local government, to phase out grass thatched houses.
