KIGALI - The Minister of Education Dr. Charles Muligande has promised the newly graduated medics additional training before they commence work.

The Minister made the pledge last week during the graduation ceremony at the Kigali Health Institute (KHI).

"I am going to try my level best to make sure that the graduated students get the much needed training,” Muligande said. "I am going to talk to the Student Financing Agency for Rwanda (SFAR) and see if they can sponsor them before starting work.”

Muligande said that the request for the training that was made by the school’s management was very crucial in improving the quality of the health workers and equipping them with necessary knowledge before starting work.

The Rector of KHI Dr. Desire Ndushabandi thanked the Minister for having positively responded to the school’s request.

"We have been for the last ten years forwarding this request, but nothing has been done. So I am very much pleased that the minister has put it into consideration,” Ndushabandi said in an interview.

"This is going to help our students perfect their work and putting what they have learned into practice,” he said.

He added that previously, these medics have been starting work immediately after school due to the small number of doctors and nurses in the country, something he said was not good.

"KHI as an institution has been having no funds to facilitate these trainings which are essential, but since SFAR is gong to help us, we are rest assured that our students are going to execute their work diligently.”
