NYAGATARE - Legislator Jean d’Arc Uwimanimpaye has urged students of Cyabaga primary and secondary school to be role models in fighting all sorts of violence in their respective communities.

The MP was speaking to students during her tour of the school’s premises that started on Saturday.

‘There  are a number of violations  that continue to afflict school going girls such as unwanted pregnancies. We need to get to the bottom of this matter,’ she said.

She urged students to reject those keen on exploiting their innocence.

‘Students, parents and guardians should be vigilant against advancements  from those keen on exploiting adolescents,’ she said.

Speaking to The New Times, Jean Pierre Rugero, a senior three student at the school said that one of the causes of unwanted pregnancies and other violence acts is poverty.

‘Some students leave their homes with out pocket money. You find most of them end up getting unwanted pregnancies as they are lured with offers of money,’ he said.

In a separate interview, the MP said that parents’ role is vital in training and teaching their children to fight the vice.
