BURERA - Third and fourth year students of the Adventist University of Central Africa-Mudende on Friday commenced a 2 week special civic education (Ingando) program at the Nkumba Peace and Leadership Centre in Burera District. The program that has attracted 824 students was organised by the National Unity and Reconciliation Commission (NURC).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, NURC Executive Secretary, Dr Jean Baptist Habyarimana, called on the students to take a leading role in changing the country’s dark history.
"Part of our history is tainted, teachers and students need to first understand the source of such unfortunate occurrences for the purposes of building a meaningful vision for the future generations” Habyarimana said.
The University’s Vice Rector in charge of Academic Affairs, Dr Gerald Rugengande, revealed that the session for final year students is part of the university’s curriculum.
