Heavy rains claim 5 in Rusizi

RUSIZI - Five bodies from Nyakabuye Sector, Rusizi District have been recovered after being swept away by torrential rains that fell in the area last week. According to Therese Mujawamariya a resident of Kiziho cell in Nyakabuye sector, the rain started falling on Wednesday at noon when they had gone to attend to prayers on the banks of Nyamabuye River.

RUSIZI - Five bodies from Nyakabuye Sector, Rusizi District have been recovered after being swept away by torrential rains that fell in the area last week.

According to Therese Mujawamariya a resident of Kiziho cell in Nyakabuye sector, the rain started falling on Wednesday at noon when they had gone to attend to prayers on the banks of Nyamabuye River.

Mujawamariya said that there was a raging storm that swept them away and she was "only saved by good Samaritans.”

The Executive Secretary of Nyakabuye, Joyeux Ingabire, said that after the incident, security and sector authorities mounted a search for those who had been swept by the storm.

Three bodies were retrieved on Thursday in Gikundamvura Sector and two others were found along Rubyiro River in Nyakabuye sector.

The deceased, whore were buried Friday were identified as Odette Nyirabakundukize (30), Christine Mukankuyo (25), Sylver Nsengumuremyi (40), Cynthia Mukamuhirwa (29) and Esther Uwizeyimana (36).
