Editor,

The Executive Secretariat of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) has learnt with great shock and concern of the bomb attacks in Kigali on 20th February 2010 which killed and injured innocent people.

We condemn this heinous crime that undermines efforts of the Government of Rwanda and the region to get rid of illegal armed groups and negative forces.

There can never be any justification for such crimes which injure and kill innocent civilians. We are confident that the Government of the Republic of Rwanda will not spare any efforts to ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to Justice.

As the countries of the region are geared towards peaceful elections, such cowardly and heinous crimes cannot be tolerated.

The International Conference on the Great Lakes Region therefore calls upon the region and the international community to support the Government of Rwanda in its efforts to maintain and sustain the prevailing hard worn peace and stability in the country.

The International Conference on the Great Lakes Region finally wishes to express its support and solidarity with the families of the victims and the Government and people of the Republic of Rwanda.
